VIRTUAL WORLD - ANOTHER LEAP

The idea of a second life over the internet? well there are possibilites of exploring to more inner depth than one could imagine. The virutal life of people does not just linger when you are at home on the internet, but it has a taken a leap further with IBM creating a virtual world for its employees to meet. It does sound crazy about having a virtual meeting place for all the employees. May be in the future we might not even have offices to goto, everything might be placed to work from home. check out the link it is more indepth than one can imagine where the virtual world is taking us.

Continuing on - I wonder if anyone saw last night's tv3 news.

Second Life and Asperger's certainly speaks of quite a compelling story for the need of socializing and interaction through hiding behind a secondary persona.

The whole meeting online for business and not just personal purposes does seem strange to me, especially since it can take place in a virtual "office" while you may be at home enjoying a cup of coffee in your underwear.

At the college I attend in the states (Ithaca College) there is a class that uses Second Life as one of the key tools to learn about technology and its advancements in marketing techniques, as more and more companies are advertising in the Second Life world. Also, my college recently purchased a Second Life island where our communications school, the Park School, now has a virtual location. In some respects this is just like the IBM meetings because classes at my school have been held in Second Life at our virtual school (however, only for the classes involving Second Life).

Personally, I don't think this could ever catch on as a favored way of doing things, only if it makes the interaction easier--say if everyone is located hundreds of miles away from each other. Other than that, I think that people need immediate human interaction to help brainstorm and generate ideas. Peoples' facial expressions and body language are in integral part of what goes into group communication.
